Our Parisian Pied-à-Terre

I finally got around to taking some photos of our studio in Paris, so here's a little tour!

This is our building as viewed from the street:

It was built in 1908 (typical for this area) and has the classic french doors leading out to tiny balconies.

Our studio does not face the street so none of these windows are ours.

Here's the main entrance:

There are two doors to enter the building: the glass and wrought iron one from the street (which is opened with a code) and this door in the entry way.

Note the lovely mosaic tile floor in art nouveau style (my favourite!).

On our floor there are three flats, our studio is the door on the right.

Oh look, the door is ajar, let's go in

This is the hallway with lovely wall sconces.

The first door on the right is to the kitchen, the second door is to the bathroom and the end door leads to the sittingroom/bedroom.

Here is the kitchen:

Slightly hellish to cook in (space-wise) but very pleasant for eating in!  We have been having our meals at the table sitting on the little red stools.

The white appliance in the corner is a washing machine.  It is top loading but the barrel sits on its side with a little trap door that you can open to put the clothes in.  Very smart idea because it makes it so much narrower than an American or UK style washing machine.

The grey appliance that you can see in the bottom right corner is a tiny oven.  More of a large toaster oven but it totally does the trick.

Above is the sink/cooker top.  The sink is super tiny but I'm loving the wall mounted drying rack, if I ever get to choose my own kitchen one day I will totally try to work this idea in cause it saves so much counter space!  The fridge is below, it is tiny, I thought our UK fridges were tiny but this one is even smaller.

Here is the sittingroom/bedroom:

Tiny but pretty perfectly laid out!  Of course, I've spent the past week thinking about things I would change but the basic features are great and work really well for us so far.

The only downside to this little place has been a certain neighbour who makes quite a racket.
The first tip off of this impolite resident is the spikes that are placed along the little railing outside our windows.

This picture shows the offending creature himself.  A young pigeon.  Actually a whole family of them who make a shocking amount of noise throughout the day and especially every morning at about 5:45am.

Those who've known me for a long time will know that my hatred of pigeons is vehement and longstanding.  Needless to say I do not relish being is close quarters with a whole family of them!  However, a pigeon problem is a pretty mild problem to have on the whole so I will not complain anymore!

To leave you with a more representative picture of our little spot, here is a photo of one of the nearby squares to our studio.

Absolutely lovely.  Not in this shot is the Eiffel Tower which is actually fully visible in the background.  We are so glad to have found such a good little spot in Paris!

I haven't said anything about our local area (the 15th arrondissement) because it deserves another post all on its own!
