Home! On Saturday July 30th we bid our Parisian studio goodbye and took the train from Paris to London (LOVE that train) where we then changed to the Edinburgh train. Edinburgh greeted us with lovely sun which lit up all the buildings and made everything look magical. Both of us were grinning at the welcome sight of our neighbourhood and the excitement of being home!!
We immediately dumped our bags at the flat, spent a few minutes marvelling at our much grown garden before walking a few minutes across town to have dinner with friends. It was so lovely to catch up with them and eat delicious delicious food while having great discussions!
The next day we went to church and then to an afternoon social with church friends in East Linton. More wonderful food and chance to chat with great friends!

After lunch we all went on a walk to the beach (near North Berwick). Scottish beaches are always so gorgeous and inviting, unfortunately the weather rarely cooperates! No swimming but lots of fun wading in the shallows and generally enjoying having bare feet on white sand.
Graham and Jeff waded out quite far, everyone was sure G would fall in. |
All that socializing on the weekend meant that our flat went from being perfect while we were away to looking like this:
Our garden had changed dramatically while we were in Paris, our strawberry patch when from a cluster of small plants with lots of space between them to this:
Rhubarb and other flowers were enormous as well.
The best surprise from the garden was that we had finally managed to grow some vegetables. Behold, the cutest little pile of potatoes ever. We ate them and they were totally delicious.
The next few days were thus spent unpacking, repacking, tidying up our messes and getting the garden in order. While Graham did all those things (yep, he's the best), I pulled very long days preparing for my conference presentation in DC.
Before we knew it, it was August 3rd and we were walking down our path with our suitcases, a clean flat behind us and a flight to Washington DC ahead of us!
